As a company founded by teachers, for teachers, we’ve always strived to create innovative and accessible solutions to practical problems teachers face every day. That’s why we were particularly excited to announce and launch our two newest capabilities at this year’s International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) conference.
By adding two new question types, Handwritten Numeric and Rubric With Capture, to our existing array of options, we literally expanded assessment possibilities beyond the bubble. Both additions were made possible by a new smart technology called Aita – our very own proprietary Artificial Intelligence Teaching Assistant.
Handwritten Numeric questions enable students to bypass the bubble grid and simply write out their number answers. Whether it’s the solution to a mathematical equation, the year of a historical event, or an atomic number from the periodic table, Aita can literally read and accurately score the response on the teacher’s behalf.
The Rubric With Capture question type also extends beyond the traditional bubble-filling formula to allow space for students to write out short answers up to ten lines long. GradeCam can then digitally capture and incorporate an image of the handwriting onto the answer sheet so the teacher can view it and assign points right from their mobile device. This flexibility allows for scoring based on custom criteria like accuracy, creativity, degree of completion, grammar/spelling, work shown, etc.
Starting August 1, 2017, teachers who are part of a current School/District GradeCam Go! license or have an individual GradeCam Go! Plus teacher license will have access to our new Rubric with Capture question type. The Handwritten Numeric question type will be available to demo free for 90 days. After the trial ends, the Handwritten Numeric question type will only be available to School/District licenses as an add-on.
If you are interested in trying out Aita sooner, you may opt-in to be a beta user (this can be found under your Account Name > Settings > Account Profile > Opt in to Beta). Beta scanning will be available only on desktop (mobile not yet supported) until 8/1/17.
